Councillors refuse to stand up and be counted
31st August 2011 A CALL for Mornington Peninsula Shire councillors to state their position on the controversial Southern Peninsula Aquatic Centre proposal has been knocked back.
Environmentalist Andrew Raff made the request during public question time at last week’s council meeting.
Mr Raff asked for those who supported the aquatic centre being built on the Rosebud foreshore to stand so their position was unambiguous. Read the article

22 August 2011 Some residents adjacent the Village Glen fear they will be pressured to sell their homes to the expanding Rosebud West retirement complex.

Rehiring of CEO citicised
August 15th 2011 MORNINGTON Peninsula Council has again rehired chief executive Michael Kennedy without advertising the position.
The move was slammed by ratepayer groups, who were already irate after the council rehired Dr Kennedy in 2004 and 2008 without advertising the position he has held since 1999 Read the article

Council stands firm on the Green Wedge
August 9th 2011 MORNINGTON Peninsula Shire has rebuffed an offer from Planning Minister Matthew Guy to extend urban boundaries into protected green wedge-zoned land.
Mornington Peninsula Council mayor Graham Pittock said there was no way the green wedge boundaries would be changed.
“Mornington Peninsula Shire is very firm on keeping the boundaries where they are,” Cr Pittock said.
“It’s the one thing we are all agreed on - we have to maintain our green wedge.” Read the article

Minister clears the way for the shire's foreshore land grab
August 9th 2011 Nepean state Liberal MP Martin Dixon, who has championed a foreshore location, said he was rapt the planning process was starting. “I am confident this is a positive step and finally we have both levels of government talking,” Mr Dixon said.

Tootgarook Swamp developer goes to VCAT
August 5th 2011 The Village Glen has already lodged an appeal with VCAT against Mornington Peninsula Shire Council’s failure to make a decision on an application to undertake earthworks and vegetation removal at the same site.
Mr Nilsson said there were always issues in planning and they were going through those processes.
He said the plans were for a further 36 units on a 2.4 ha block on nearby St Elmos Close.

Libraries fear funding cuts
July 9th 2011 FUNDING for Victorian public libraries has been slashed by the Baillieu Government. The Municipal Association of Victoria, the peak body for Victorian councils, says all public libraries will feel the pinch of a $5 million cut over the next four years

Development limits cop blast
July 5th 2011 A MOVE to cap height limits in the commercial centres of many peninsula towns to two storeys has been blasted as a “knee-jerk reaction”. Cr David Gibb spoke out as fellow Mornington Peninsula Shire councillors backed the move, which will affect most smaller towns.
